Judo-Jujitsu
Judu and Jujitsu are excellent ways to learn self-protection,
self-defense, self develop coordination and overcome self-confidence
problems. A judo or jujitsu workout conditions the body both
aerobically and anaerobically, builds strength and increases flexibility.
The student learns: rolls, falls, throws, pins escapes, focus, goal
setting, goal achieving, and dealing with aggression without over
reacting. Best of all, Judo and Jujitsu provide an opportunity for fun,
fellowship, thinking and exercising - all at the same time. A
seven-week beginners course is required for anyone interested in
participating. Children at least five years of age as well as adults
are welcome. With the completion of the introductory class,
participants may continue with Judo by joining the Judo team.
Participation in the Judo team is free, but open to YMCA members only.

Akido
Required by Corrections Departments throughout the country due to the
substantial amount of control it gives its practitioners. Akido
offers the same benefits as other martial arts (self-discipline and
confidence, in addition to flexibility and coordination) along with the
option of avoiding extreme force. Learning to control an attacker is
a difficult endeavor, which goes beyond knowing how to injure him in order
to acquire this skill. Akido uses timing and balance in a manner,
which is more sophisticated than arts practiced for sports competition,
making it an art of grace and violence unsuitable for anyone under the age
of 14.
Fee: Member $15
NonMember $55
Juido (Robinson Branch Only)
This program utilizes the American Juido System, a nationally recognized
physical training system that produces benefits such as general toning,
increased strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and improved
reaction time. Students become more confident in their own ability, which
leads to improved self-esteem. Once the physical skills are achieved,
adults may choose to learn an effective self-defense system as well. Both
adult and junior program members will be provided the opportunity to earn
nationally recognized juido belt rank.
