I Tried Scuba
This program is offered to individuals who have an interest in Scuba but
want to know more about the sport. The first half of the class,
devoted to the classroom, will provide a brief orientation to the sport,
equipment and safety. In the pool, participants will actually use the
equipment and breathe underwater. Anyone 12 and over may participate.
Youth ages 12-14 must be accompanied by a parent. If you decide to
continue with Scuba, the fee will be applied to the Scuba course.
YMCA Scuba Diving
After successful completion of this course, participants will be ready
to complete their outdoor Open Water Dive, the last step toward
certification. For those who wish to continue, Open Water Dives can be
scheduled locally or on special Florida diving trips with our instructor.
The registration fee includes classroom training, manuals, pool training,
and use of the necessary equipment. The minimum age for this course is 12
years of age. Parents of youth ages 12-14 must be in the classroom and
pool area during class, but are not required to enroll.
Advanced Open Water
Diving
This class includes instruction in navigation, advanced equipment care,
deep diving, night diving, boat diving, first-aid and accident management,
and diving etiquette. Successful completion of this class requires an
Advanced Open Water Checkout Dive. Fee includes certification,
instruction, and materials
Nitrox
Diving with Nitrox (enriched air) is considered by many to be safer and more enjoyable for the driver. Because Nitrox contains less nitrogen, dive times and depths can be extended without increasing the risk of decompression sickness. Many Nitrox divers prefer not to extend their depth and time, but rather enjoy the extra margin of safety afforded by the Nitrox.
This course will teach you the proper use, handling, and safety precautions of diving with Nitrox. Students must have YMCA Open Water Diver or equivalent and at least 10 logged open water dives. Students must also have complete understanding of dive tables. Successful completion requires two open water dives which will be arranged with the instructor. Successful completion of the course will result in Nitrox Diver certification, which will permit you to buy and rent Nitrox for diving.
